Malecha, Marvin J.

Biographical Note:
Marvin J. Malecha was born and raised in Minnesota, and served as professor of architecture and dean of North Carolina State University’s College of Design from 1994-2015. He earned a bachelor of architecture degree from the University of Minnesota and a master of architecture from Harvard University. At California State Polytechnic University, Pomona, Malecha was chair of the Department of Architecture, 1979-1982, and dean of the College of Environmental Design, 1982-1994. He was dean of North Carolina State University's College of Design (COD), 1994-2015. In 1980, he was recognized as the Rotch Traveling Scholar. In 1989-1990 he was president of the Association of Collegiate Schools of Architecture (ACSA). He is a Fellow of the American Institute of Architects (AIA) and was elected in 2007 to serve as First Vice-President/President Elect of the AIA in 2008 and President in 2009. In 2003 he received the Topaz Medallion for Excellence in Architectural Education from the American Institute of Architects and Association of Collegiate Schools of Architecture.
