Speck, Marvin L., 1913-

Biographical Note:
Speck received his Ph.D. in Bacteriology from Cornell University and became Associate Professor of Dairy Bacteriology at N. C. State College from 1947-1951, and Professor of Dairy Microbiology in 1951. In 1957 he became the William Neal Reynolds Professor of Food Science and Microbiology, a position he held until he retired in 1979. Speck filed a lawsuit to claim royalties from the "Sweet Acidophilus" milk that are now being paid to an N.C. State University Foundation. He and Stanley E. Gilliland developed the product in the 1960s and early 1970s.
