- Transcribed from back: #855, Farm Forestry Series, By R. H. Page, Jr., Asst. Ext. Forester; Black locust tree, farm of J. L. Heartly near Linville, Avery County. This tree measured 47 inches in circumference, November 14, 1936, and according to Mr. Heartly, it is growing on a site which in 1917 was used as a log slide.
