Provenance note:
The house was built for Francis Grice (Pennsylvania merchant) and his wife Mary, first owners. After Francis Grice died, the house passed to Mary and her second husband, Isaiah Fearing, second owners.
Architectural note:
Isaiah Fearing enlarged the house and added the two-story engaged porch. The house includes an example of a side passage plan popular in the region.
Historical note:
It is a contributing property in the Shepard Street-South Road Street Historic District. The structure is listed on the National Register of Historic Places.
