Wayland J. Reams

Wayland J. Reams was born in Roxboro, NC. After graduating from high school in Apex, NC, he joined the United States Navy. In his four years of service, he advanced to the rank of Gunners’ Mate Third Class. After completing his service, he enrolled at NC State in 1937. In the fall of 1940, NC State’s military department promoted him to the rank of Cadet Colonel of the R.O.T.C.

During Reams’s tenure, NC State implemented the State College Student Assembly. The Technician praised the new assembly as a “unique system of government” that “affords a voice in the affairs of the campus to a greater portion of students.” Reams served on the organization committee.

Reams managed the Student Book Exchange. The Technician declared it the most “successful business period since the institution was inaugurated.”
