Film, video and animation from students in courses in Communication and Art + Design, Interdisciplinary Arts Seminar, and Dance and Technology, curated from the Libraries’ Moving Image Showcase events since 2011
More about this collection
The Student Moving Image Showcase was created as a partnership between the NC State University Libraries, Art + Design, and the Department of Communication, and had its inaugural screening on February 3, 2011. In the years since, we have expanded, and these pieces represent work created in the classes taught by the following faculty: Sarah Stein and TJ Volgare (film production); Jim Alchediak (video production); Marc Russo, Macarthur Freeman and Pat Fitzgerald (animation); Interdisciplinary Arts Seminar (Tori Ralston); and Dance and Technology (Autumn Belk). In the fall 2019 semester, we changed the name of the showcase to the Student Moving Image Showcase, to represent the expanded content.
Since its inception, the Showcase has been an annual audience favorite, and has featured more than one hundred student works, highlighting student creators’ creativity, technical knowledge, and storytelling skills. Every semester, the student work itself is consistently strong and inspiring: some pieces are moving, some experimental, some humorous. Students are thrilled to see their work presented on a large screen with high-quality audio. But what sets the Showcase apart and deepens its impact is having the students interact with the audience, talking about the experience of making their work and what they learned from the process.
This kiosk features some of the pieces created over the past several years, along with student-created introductions. We hope you enjoy them.
