Summer 2025 closure

The D. H. Hill Jr. Library will be closed beginning on Monday, May 5, 2025, for planned electrical work. The Special Collections Research Center is located in Hill Library, and will be closed for all appointments during this period. Special Collections can only make appointment requests until April 25th and after August 3, 2025. During the closure, Special Collections staff will be available to answer questions about our collections, if they are accessible, and to support researchers using digital materials for their research. Some materials will not be available for reproduction requests. Please contact us!

Peterson, W. J. (Walter John), 1909-1980

Biographical Note:
Professor and Head of the Nutrition program of the Department of Animal Science from 1942-1950, Head of the Chemistry Department from 1950-1956, and Dean of the Graduate School from 1956-1974. He was named William Neals Reynolds Professor of Chemistry in 1954, received the Centennial Award in 1955 for his outstanding achievements and contributions to the field of science and education, and was a Fellow of the American Association for the Advancement of Science. He was listed in American Men of Science, Who’s Who in Chemistry, Who’s Who in the South, and Who’s Who Among Young Men of America. He received his doctorate from the University of Iowa in Organic Chemistry.
