Bowers, Henry

Biographical Note:
A native of Tampa, Florida, Henry Bowers is a graduate of the University of North Carolina at Chapel Hill, where he earned his undergraduate degree (Class of 1952) and served as student body president (1951-1952). Following graduation Bowers served in the United States Navy and earned a master’s degree in history from Columbia University (1956). After working for the Alcoa Company for several years, Bowers became Assistant Director of Student Activities at North Carolina State College (later University) in 1957. He later held the posts of Director of the Student Union (1962), Executive Director of Friends of the College at North Carolina State University, Associate Dean of Student Affairs, and Associate Vice Chancellor (1970).
