Blessis, George Hansson, 1924-1987

Biographical Note:
Dr. Blessis received his B.E. and M.E. from Yale University, and his Ph.D. from the University of Illinois. He was appointed Associate Professor of Civil Engineering at NCSU in 1971. He twice received the NCSU departmental Outstanding Teacher Award and in 1975 he was elected to the NCSU Academy of Outstanding Teachers. In 1986 he received the Kimle-Horn Faculty Award in recognition of his teaching and work with teachers. Dr. Blessis was killed in an automobile accident at age 62. At the time of his death he was serving as faculty adviser to the Chi Epsilon student chapter. For many years he coordinated the activities of engineer-in-training reviews and examinations for students in their first step toward becoming registered professional engineers. The George H. Blessis Memorial Scholarship in Civil Engineering and Constructions was established by NCSU civil engineering students.
