Eugene (Gene) Edwin Bernard received his B.A. from the University of California and his Ph.D. from University of Leeds (England). He was hired as an Assistant Professor in 1962. Bernard was a physiologist interested in bionics and co-edited the second book written on the subject. He later became interested in astral projection and resigned his tenured position as Associate Professor in Psychology in the School of Education, effective June 30, 1967. Dr. Bernard applied, unsuccessfully, for a position in the Department of Product Design in the School of Design.
