Baermann, Walter, 1903-

Biographical Note:
Professor for Department of Product Design in the School of Design from 1964-1968, and he worked at the Center for Urban Affairs and Community Services from 1969-1972. During his career he had many professional accomplishments. He spearheaded the design for the Philadelphia Savings Fund Society Building, one of the archetypes for the modern skyscraper. In 1932, Fortune Magazine listed him among the first twelve successful practitioners of industrial design. He was a member of the California Division of the President's National Resources Planning Board, worked as a consultant (labor training specialist) to the War Production Board, and he was Chief of Graphics in the Office of Civilian Defense in Washington, D.C from 1941-1947. He was listed in Who’s Who in the South in 1964.
