Anderson, Donald B., 1899-1994

Biographical Note:
Donald B. Anderson received his B.A and B.S. in Education and an M.A. in Botany from Ohio State University. He was named University Scholar in Botany in 1922, and received his Ph.D. in 1925 in plant physiology from Ohio State. In 1925 he was appointed Assistant Professor of Botany at North Carolina State College of Agriculture and Engineering. He was awarded a fellowship by the International Education Board to spend a year in the Plant Physiological Institute in Vienna in 1927. He maintained an interest in cell-wall structure and became the director of the Cotton Fiber Research Laboratory in Raleigh. He was Associate Professor at NC State from 1938-1949, and Dean of the School of Agriculture from 1945-1948. He was Department Head of Botany at NC State College from 1949-1950, and Division Head of Biology Sciences and Associate Dean of Graduate School in 1950. He was elected Provost of the Consolidated University of North Carolina in 1958. He received the O. Max Gardner Award in 1951.
