Lee, William C., 1895-1948

Biographical Note:
William C. Lee, a Dunn, NC native and NCSU graduate, was heralded as a hero by hometown papers following World War II. After his death, Lee’s commemoration continued as an article in a 2005 edition of the Raleigh News and Observer indicates. The paper called Lee “father of the Airborne, instrumental in the D-Day invasion in Normandy…. and first Commander of the 101st Airborne Division.” The city of Dunn, N.C. erected The General William C. Lee Airborne Museum in his honor.
