Matsumoto, George, 1922-

Biographical Note:
American architect and educator, originally from California. Matsumoto studied architecture under Eliel Saarinen at the Cranbrook Academy of Art and began his teaching career at the University of Oklahoma. He came to NCSC, along with Henry L. Kamphoefner, when the new School of Design was begun in 1948. Winner of over 30 awards for building design, Matsumoto designed a number of private homes in the Raleigh area before he left NCSU in 1961. He taught for a number of years at the University of California, Berkeley and was elected a Fellow of the American Institute of Architects before he retired.
