Summer 2025 closure

The D. H. Hill Jr. Library will be closed beginning on Monday, May 5, 2025, for planned electrical work. The Special Collections Research Center is located in Hill Library, and will be closed for all appointments during this period. Special Collections can only make appointment requests until April 25th and after August 3, 2025. During the closure, Special Collections staff will be available to answer questions about our collections, if they are accessible, and to support researchers using digital materials for their research. Hamby, Dame S. (Dame Scott), 1920-

Biographical Note:
Professor in the School of Textile from 1948-1965, Head of the Department of Textiles Technology from 1965-1972, Director of Textiles Extension and Continuing Education from 1972-1981, and Dean of the School of Textiles from 1981-1987. In 1956, he became the first appointee to the Burlington Industries Professorship and Supervisor of the Quality Control Division of the School of Textiles. In 1961, he received an award for distinguished service to the Textile and Needles Trade Division of the American Society for Quality Control. He was elected a Fellow of the American Association for the Advancement of Science (AAAS) in 1965. Hamby received an honorary doctorate from Philadelphia University in 1984. When he retired he became the first Executive Director of the North Carolina Textile Foundation, a private foundation that supports the School of Textiles at NCSU.
