- Biographical Note:
- Professor for the Department of Crop Science. He co-developed the NC-2 peanut, the most commonly grown peanut of its time and the first large-scale artificial transmutation of a gene in the U.S., and the NC-4x or the “atomic peanut” in 1970. He became the William Neal Reynolds Professor of Crop Science in 1957 and he received the O. Max Gardner Award in 1967. He was appointed to the Governor’s Scientific Advisory in 1970. He obtained his Ph.D. from the University of Virginia.
