- Biographical Note:
- After serving in the Army during WWII, Whitfield completed his Engineering degree from State in 1947. He became an instructor at N.C. State while pursuing a Master's degree, and he later earned his Ph.D. from Virginia Polytechnic Institute. Whitfield retired in 1985 after 38 years in the Department of Mechanical and Aerospace Engineering.
