Summer 2025 closure

The D. H. Hill Jr. Library will be closed beginning on Monday, May 5, 2025, for planned electrical work. The Special Collections Research Center is located in Hill Library, and will be closed for all appointments during this period. Special Collections can only make appointment requests until April 25th and after August 3, 2025. During the closure, Special Collections staff will be available to answer questions about our collections, if they are accessible, and to support researchers using digital materials for their research. Zia, Paul, 1926-

Biographical Note:
A native of China, Paul Zia earned his B.S. in Civil Engineering from the National Chiao Tung University in China and emigrated to the United States in 1949. He earned his M.S. at the University of Washington in 1952 and his Ph.D. from the University of Florida in 1960. He became a member of the Civil Engineering faculty in 1961, and was appointed Associate Department Head of Civil Engineering in 1967. Zia served as head of the department of Civil, Construction, and Environmental Engineering at NC State University from 1979-1988. His professional interests were in concrete and structural engineering. He is recognized as an international authority in the field of reinforced and pre-stressed concrete structures. Zia was President of the American Concrete Institute in 1989, is a Member of the National Academy of Engineering, and is a Fellow of the American Society of Civil Engineers and American Concrete Institute. He is currently a Distinguished University Professor Emeritus of Civil Engineering.
