- Lovvorn was Professor of Agronomy from 1936 to 1950. In 1953, he was appointed Director of Instruction in the College of Agriculture and Life Sciences. He was Director of the Agricultural Experiment Station from 1955 to 1969. By 1979, Lovvorn had become National Chief Administrator for Cooperative Research Service).
