Gibson, Claude

Biographical Note:
Claude Gibson received his education degree in 1961 from NCSU. Gibson played football at NCSU from 1957-1960. Upon graduation, he played football professionally, first for the San Diego Chargers and then for the Oakland Raiders. In 1967, Gibson returned to NCSU to coach Wolf Pack defensive backs. After 1967, he coached professional football for 2 years before returning to college coaching at Tulsa University. The last ten years of his career were spent as Head Football Coach at Mars Hill College outside of Asheville. According to the late Earle Edwards, former NC State Football Coach, "Claude Gibson was one of the finest all-around players we ever had at NC State." Gibson was elected to membership in the North Carolina Sports Hall of Fame in 2007.
