- Biographical Note:
- Donald L. Dean received his B.S.C.E. and M.S.C.E. from Missouri School of Mines and his Ph.D. from the University of Michigan in 1955. He was appointed Head of the Civil Engineering Department at NCSU in 1965. In 1967 he received the Walter L. Huber Civil Engineering Research Prize from the American Society of Civil Engineers for his research in the use of discreet field mechanics in determining the behavior of complex structural systems. Dean left NCSU in 1978 to become Dean of the Armour College of Engineering at Illinois Institute of Technology.
