- Actor, singer, and comedian, born 1 June 1926 in Mt. Airy, Andy Griffith is best known for his TV role as Sheriff Andy Taylor of Mayberry, the fictitious name given to Mt. Airy on the Andy Griffith Show. He also starred in several other television series, including The Headmaster, The Yeagers, and Matlock, as well as in films such as A Face in the Crowd and No Time for Sergeants. A 1949 graduate of UNC, Griffith holds a Bachelors in Music.
