National Anti-Vivisection Society

Biographical Note:
From LC: National Anti-vivisection Society was founded in 1875 as the Society for Protection of Animals Liable to Vivisection. In 1878 the name was changed to Victoria Street Society for the Protection of Animals from Vivisection. In 1883 the Society merged with the International Association for the Total Suppression of Vivisection to form the Victoria Street Society for the Protection of Animals from Vivisection, United with the International Association for the Total Suppression of Vivisection (called also Victoria Street and International Anti-Vivisection Society). In Oct. 1897 the name was changed to above form. At the end of 1956 the London and Provincial Anti-Vivisection Society was amalgamated into the above Society.
