- Born in Elkin, NC, in 1934, Abie Harris is an American architect and planner. Harris earned his bachelor’s degree from North Carolina State University during the early years of the School of Design (now College of Design). In 1958, Harris won the 45th Paris Prize in Architecture. Upon returning the United States, Harris worked in the office of architect Leif Valand for four years. In 1966, Harris was hired to teach at the North Carolina State University College of Design and participate in campus planning. In 1970, Harris became the head of facilities planning division at North Carolina State University. Harris retired in 1998.
