Summer 2025 closure

The D. H. Hill Jr. Library will be closed beginning on Monday, May 5, 2025, for planned electrical work. The Special Collections Research Center is located in Hill Library, and will be closed for all appointments during this period. Special Collections can only make appointment requests until April 25th and after August 3, 2025. During the closure, Special Collections staff will be available to answer questions about our collections, if they are accessible, and to support researchers using digital materials for their research. Some materials will not be available for reproduction requests. Please contact us!

Harris, Abie (Edwin F.)

Biographical Note:
Born in Elkin, NC, in 1934, Abie Harris is an American architect and planner. Harris earned his bachelor’s degree from North Carolina State University during the early years of the School of Design (now College of Design). In 1958, Harris won the 45th Paris Prize in Architecture. Upon returning the United States, Harris worked in the office of architect Leif Valand for four years. In 1966, Harris was hired to teach at the North Carolina State University College of Design and participate in campus planning. In 1970, Harris became the head of facilities planning division at North Carolina State University. Harris retired in 1998.
