Clark, David

Biographical Note:
David Clark received his B.S. in engineering from NC State College in 1895. From that date to 1897, Clark taught mechanical drawing while performing post-graduate work. He received his M.S. in both mechanical engineering and civil engineering. After receiving his degrees from NC State, Clark entered Cornell University, playing football there before leaving school to serve in the Spanish-American War. While at war, Cornell awarded Clark an absentia degree in mechanical engineering. His last degree, awarded by NC State in 1944, was an honorary Doctorate in Textile Science. He received this in honor of his lifetime support of the university. One example of his efforts to better NC State is the large one million dollar donation Clark bequeathed to the school. Outside his contributions to NC State, Clark worked as a journalist. He was the founder of the Clark Publishing Company and publisher of the Textile Bulletin and The Knitter.
