Description:
Transcribed from back: R. W. Scott, Jr. (Bolton, NC) in the midst of his newly established apiary on Honey Island in Green Swamp[, NC]. This region is infested with bears and since the ear is a great lover of honey, Mr. Scott built a strong bear proof fence around the apiary site before the bees were placed there on. He reports yields of more than 200 pounds each from many of the colonies in this location. The bees were moved to Honey Island during early spring of the present season. The island is in the midst of a vast swamp where there is an abundance of gum trees, gallberry, holly and other honey producing plants.
