- Provenance note:
- The home was originally constructed by James Coor, a local house-builder and real estate speculator, to serve as his home. In the early twentieth century the house was acquired by Edward K. Bishop, a merchant and wholesale grocer.
- Architectural note:
- The house's original appearance was that of a Georgian Revival style residence, but the renovations of 1904 transformed the structure into an example of Simpson's characteristic Southern Colonial style, complete with columns and a full one-story porch.

- The home played host to such prominent visitors as President James Monroe and John C. Calhoun.
