- The interviews with John A. Hoyt are from 2000-2002 and were conducted by Kim W. Stallwood. John A. Hoyt acted as president and chief executive of the Humane Society from 1970 to 1996, during which he expanded the organization's scope to include protections for laboratory animals, livestock, wildlife, and other animals. Under his leadership, the organization also concentrated on lobbying and spreading public awareness of animal cruelty and abuse. The interviews are part of the oral histories created by the Animal Rights Network, an activist organization that worked to unite local, national, and international animal rights groups to achieve shared goals.
