- Wolf Tales Recording with Hang Zhang and Feng Wang: FLE400, 23 October 2018
- Description:
- This recording was conducted as part of FLE 400: American English pronunciation for International Students with Professor Mary Michaels Estrada in October 2018, in the D.H. Hill Jr. Library. Hang Zhang and Feng Wang, students from Hainan and the Inner Mongolia region of China, respectively, discuss their favorite things about being students at N.C. State. Feng is a first year PhD student in Animal Sciences, and arrived in America earlier in the year, while Hang is in his senior year of undergraduate studies in Business Administration with a concentration in Supply Chain Management. The two discuss differences in Chinese and American schooling, where Feng describes how exciting it is to be in a place with so much diversity and variety in classes. Both believe the most challenging part of coming to the United States is the language barrier, and cite moments where they have struggled to understand native speakers, despite trying. They agree that the most important thing a new international student can do is to go to events, try new things, and get involved with clubs that interest them. Feng is involved with the Chinese Student and Scholar Friendship Association, and has enjoyed the opportunities to get out and meet new people, and Hang found the International Student Orientation to be most helpful.
