This recording was conducted as part of a Wolf Tales Open Recording Day in the Talley Student Union. Lani St. Hill discusses her experiences as the Waste Reduction/Recycling Outreach Coordinator for NC State. St. Hill discusses working with students to create waste management and reduction programs, including at tailgate or athletics events; the challenges of finding work-life balance; and how she has found that in her current position. St. Hill pays homage to the behind-the-scenes work which keeps our facilities clean; from collection trucks that start work at 3am, to educators who advocate for campus recycling. St. Hill emphasizes the camaraderie within the Wolfpack community, and how students become part of something bigger than themselves. Also discussed is the Zero Waste Wolfpack initiative, and the expansion of composting on campus from the WE (Wolfpack Excellence) Recycle campaign which began in 2003. Successes of the program include breaking many waste diversion records in 2017, including composting more waste from Carter-Finley Stadium than was sent to landfill.
