Wolf Tales recording with Amatullah Saleem: NC State Live, Urban Bush Women "Hair and Other Stories" After-Show Party, 2 February 2018
Description:
This recording was conducted in the Talley Student Union on the campus of North Carolina State University in Raleigh, North Carolina, following the Urban Bush Women performance “Hair and Other Stories,” as part of a Wolf Tales partnership with NC State Live. Amatullah Saleem discusses her personal experiences with hair, childhood hair straightening treatments and racially defined notions of beauty, seeing African American dancers Katherine Dunham and Syvilla Fort as role models for embracing natural Black hair textures, and how embracing her natural hair has impacted her sense of self.
