Wolf Tales recording with Ayanis Lindo and Jelytza Padro: African American Cultural Center's Harambee 2016, 8 September 2016
Description:
This recording was conducted in the Talley Student Union on the campus of North Carolina State University in Raleigh, North Carolina, at the NCSU African American Cultural Center’s 2016 Harambee event. In the recording, Ayanis Lindo (‘17) and Jelytza Padro (‘15) discuss: the African American Cultural Center (AACC) as a second home, and a place of self-discovery and love; understanding their identities as Latina and Afro-Latina women; AACC Program Coordinator Toni Harris Thorpe (known as “Mama Thorpe”); the weekly “What’s on the Table” open forum hosted by the AACC; being AYA Ambassadors; confronting Euro-centric narratives of history and learning about other underrepresented narratives of history; finding community, support, and motivation as underrepresented minorities on a predominantly white campus; and the African proverb, “It is not taboo to go back and fetch what you have forgotten.” [Preferred citation: Wolf Tales recording with Ayanis Lindo and Jelytza Padro, 8 September 2016, NCSU Libraries Wolf Tales Recordings, MC 00581, Special Collections Research Center, North Carolina State University Libraries, Raleigh, NC]
