Description:

This recording was conducted as part of FLE 400: American English pronunciation for International Students with Professor Mary Michaels Estrada in October 2018, in the D.H. Hill Jr. Library. Chenghao Li studies Biology at N.C. State, and was a participant in the Intensive English Program (IEP) before his first year. Coming from China, Li originally believed the language barrier to be the greatest struggle he would face as an international student, but realized after learning the basics, that it was American culture that was truly foreign to him. These cultural differences span from news and TV, academic approaches, family life, and food. Li emphasizes that American Chinese food is very different from the food that is eaten in China. Li says that not all is so different though, and that he has valued the opportunity to see this new culture and meet new friends.
