This recording was conducted in the Talley Student Union on the campus of North Carolina State University in Raleigh, North Carolina, at a Wolf Tales Open Recording Day. Debbie Carraway and Henry Schaffer discuss Schaffer’s arrival at NC State in 1959, desegregation at NC State, first female African American academic staff member Justina Williams, Chancellors Carey Bostian, John T. Caldwell, and Larry Monteith, the evolution of NC State into a leading research university, interacting with Japanese colleagues following World War II, Professor of Plant Pathology and campus administrator Nash Winstead, and progress in inclusivity and equity for the LGBT community at NC State.
