This recording was conducted in Carmichael Gym on the campus of North Carolina State University in Raleigh, North Carolina, at the NCSU Native American Student Affairs 2017 Pow Wow event. In the recording, Lauren “Alex” Blake (‘20) discusses: participating in Pow Wows within her local Lumbee community before coming to NC State; reuniting with friends and family at Pow Wow and enjoying the food, dancing, and music; volunteering with the Dairy Unit as an Animal Science major in her freshman year at NC State; dealing with homesickness and adjusting to new responsibilities upon arriving at NC State; gratitude for the Native American student community and Brittany Hunt, Assistant Director of Native American Student Affairs at NC State; being part of the Native Space residential village; hope that more Native American students come to NC State; and the supportive network of students who keep a sense of community and family, in particular as a resource for prospective Native American students coming to NC State.
