This recording was conducted in October 2018, in the D. H. Hill Jr. Library. Dr. Kristine M. Alpi discusses her experience as Director of the William Rand Kenan Jr. Library of Veterinary Medicine, 2008-2018; and completing her PhD in Educational Research and Policy Analysis at the NCSU College of Education. Dr. Alpi discusses her move to Raleigh, and her lifelong devotion to animals. Alpi discusses work with the Turtle Rescue Team; and her adjustments as a librarian who had previously only worked in large urban environments. Dr. Alpi shares stories of "Vetriety," a major annual event within the College of Veterinary Medicine; describes the process of assisting the Turtle Rescue Team with their records management, along with the Special Collections Research Center and University Archives; and reflects on challenges including budgeting concerns and theft of medical textbooks. Notable successes include co-publishing and conducting research with student workers within the library, including Lauren Stranahan. Dr. Alpi ends the recording with best wishes for her successor, and hopes that her colleagues continue to support each other and be kind.
