Title:
Land Characterization I. Accuracy of Soil Conservation Service Maps, 1985 (Forest Science Laboratory Soils/Analytical Group, Research Report No. 38)
Description:
Recent efforts to develop an operational land classification system for Southern Woodlands have focused on a 22,000 acre pilot study area in Berkeley County, South Carolina. The existing Soil Conservation Service (SCS) Soil Survey was chosen for initial investigation of the several potential methods for classifying land on the study area. It is a widely used system, it is the least costly mapping alternative, and would be the quickest to implement. It has the backing of the U.S. Department of Agriculture and all land grant universities.
