Description:
Four locations of the Subsoil Profile Shattering Study were installed from 1981 to 1983 on hardwood conversion sites in the Virginia Piedmont. Treatments consisted of: 1) control (no subsoiling); 2) subsoiling at a 12-inch bottom depth with a winged subsoil bar; 3) subsoiling with a winged subsoil bar pulled as deeply as possible, averaging about 16 inches; 4) subsoiling with a standard Caterpillar ripper foot pulled as deeply as possible, averaging about 14 inches.
