- Title:
- Nitrogen Application in Subsoil Slits at Time of Planting Loblolly Pine on Hardwood Conversion Land in the Virginia Piedmont, 1984 (Charlottesville Research Center Research Report No. 77)
- Description:
- Nitrogen (N) applied below ground at time of planting in the form of ammonium nitrate at rates of 50, 100, 150, and 200 pounds per acre (lbs./ac.) of elemental material did not produce a significant growth difference over the check in average tree volume of loblolly pine after five growing seasons. The application of N at 150 lbs./ac. in combination with phosphorus (P) in the form of triple superphosphate at 50 lbs./ac. elemental P produced a highly significant growth difference in average tree volume over all other fertilizer treatments, but not the check, i.e., no fertilizer.
