- Nitrogen Source and Timing Study -- 5-Year Results (North Carolina State Forest Fertilization Coop. Regionwide-3) (Research Information Sheet No. SC-9)
- Description:
- A 7-year-old plantation was treated with two nitrogen fertilizers at three different times of the year. The fertilizers were urea and ammonium nitrate. The times of the year were spring, summer and fall. After 5 years, the average of all the fertilizer treatments showed a response of 254.2 cu. ft. per acre over the Check. The best treatment was urea in spring with a response of 355.0 cu. ft. per acre. There was no significant difference in the response of the two nitrogen sources. The spring and fall applications were nearly equal in their responses. The summer response was inferior to the other two application times. It is recommended that nitrogen as urea be applied in either March or November.
