- Title:
- Response of Loblolly Seedlings to Phosphate Fertilizer After 5-Years (Research Report No. 160)
- Description:
- After 5 years the seedlings treated with phosphatic fertilizers are nearly 7-feet taller than the 8-foot tall Check trees, and have 9 times more volume per tree. Soil analysis reveals the area to be deficient in phosphorus, but high in native nitrogen. Foliar analysis and the growth response of P-fertilized trees both show that when a P-deficiency is overcome excellent growth is obtained. Results from other studies which also had low soil P do not always show a marked growth increase to applications of phosphatic fertilizers. Data from other studies and from this study suggest that on soils low in P an adequate supply of nitrogen is also necessary to produce an obvious growth response when phosphatic fertilizers are added.
