Title:
Growth Responses from the Application of Fertilizers and Trace Elements in Young Plantations and a Seed Production Area, 1957 (Westvaco Experimental Forest Number W-81)
Description:
European foresters have for many years studied tree nutrition and the effects of fertilizing. However, it has not been until recently that American foresters have demonstrated interest in fertilizing techniques. In the spring of 1957 some small scale tests were established at the Experimental Forest. The results obtained from these fertilizing experiments, although representing initial findings, strongly indicate that there may be application of such techniques on a profitable production basis in young closed stands to increase volume growth. Additional investigation of residual growth effects, production application techniques, application to different site and stand conditions and cost analyses are necessary before fertilizing can be proposed as a management technique.
