Title:
1972 Loblolly Clone Screening Trials for Fertilizer Response in the Greenhouse (Summerville Research Center, Research Report No. 71)
Description:
Progeny from six selected open pollinated pine clones were tested for differential response to fertilization on three company soils in the greenhouse. This study was part of an ongoing series of experiments in which most of the select clones from the South Carolina coastal seed orchard are being screened for response of their progeny to fertilization. All of the clones tested gave a moderate growth response to 100 lbs./acre of applied phosphorus and a sizeable response to a complete fertilizer mixture. Total dry weight yield was about the same for all the clones tested. However, growth response to a complete fertilizer was different among clones. Progeny of clones 7-56, 11-26, and 11-41, as a group, responded better to fertilization than progeny of clones 11-99, 11-88, and 11-10. Clone 11-26 was the best responder to the complete fertilizer, while clone 18-99 was the poorest responder. The clone screening will continue with different clones in the greenhouse until the series is completed.
