Item information
- Title:
- Subsoil Planting Loblolly Pine (Winnsboro Research Center, Research Report No. 45)
- Description:
- Loblolly pine was planted directly in subsoil slits on a Piedmont tract that had been double disced. After two growing seasons the trees planted in the subsoil slits were superior in survival, height growth, and volume growth to trees planted without sub-soiling. Subsoiling is a promising site preparation tool for upland sites. It reduces the mechanical resistance of the soil to deep root penetration and improves soil moisture uptake thereby increasing tree growth.
