Title:
Loblolly Response to Eight Site Preparation Intensities After Two Years (Winnsboro Research Center, Research Report No. 43)
Description:
Eight intensities of site preparation were applied to three South Carolina Piedmont tracts. Loblolly pine was machine planted at 6' x 10' in the winter of 1968. At the end of two growing seasons there were significant responses to treatments in both tree survival and tree volume. Tree height was nearly the same on all plots. Bedding, double discing, and subsoiling all increased total tree volumes. Bedding was effective on an upper Piedmont tract in contrast to its effect in other studies previously reported. Subsoiling was effective in increasing soil moisture retention even on sandy soils.
