- Governor Hunt describes growing up on a dairy and tobacco farm and his involvement with Future Farmers of America. He describes how he came to the decision to attend NC State (then State College) to become a dairy farmer. He discusses segregation and civil rights, professors who influenced him (particularly Abraham Holtzman), his time in student senate and as student body president, his political involvement (beginning with Terry Sanford), being a married student with children, graduate school, law school, John F. Kennedy's influence on him and his political life, his move to Nepal for two years to work with the Ford Foundation, and his decision to run for Lt. Governor in 1972. As Governor of North Carolina, he describes his passion for education and his idea for Centennial Campus. He discusses the new Hunt Library (not completed at the time of the interview) and the Institute for Emerging Issues. He details the impact NC State has had on his life.
