Gusler discusses growing up in segregated Burlington, NC, being followed and wiretapped by police, his participation in political protests, being dubbed a communist by the John Birch Society of Alamance County, Chancellor John Caldwell and his influence, his friendship with Cathy Sterling, family tensions due to his activism, Vietnam War protests and the Peace Retreat, marriage to Doris Wells, the struggle to keep his grades up and not be intimidated, teaching junior high then college, working for the Player's Retreat then purchasing it later.
