- The structure exemplifies the temple form courthouses constructed in North Carolina in the mid-nineteenth century, and features an exceptionally tall Doric portico.
- Historical note:
- The building was constructed during competition between Guilford, Davidson, and Rowan counties to build the best courthouse. The structure lies within the boundaries of the Salisbury Historic District, which is listed on the National Register of Historic Places.
