The home was modeled on the Cubical Cottage in Tuscan Style from A. J. Downing's "Architecture of Country Houses." Post functioned as the carpenter during the home's construction, and Robert B. Wood as builder.

The home lies within the boundaries of the Wilmington Historic District, which is listed on the National Register of Historic Places.
