Provenance note:
The house was built for Dauphin Disco and Lillie Dougherty, first owners. Dougherty and his brother Blanford Barnard Dougherty founded Appalachian State University.
Architectural note:
The house is significant as an example of a turn of the century mountain residence. The one story wraparound porch has been enclosed on one side.
Historical note:
The original location was on Rivers Street in Boone, and the house was moved and restored as a museum in the 1980s.
